Plus-Size Clothing Retailer Kiyonna Vows to “Empower Change Within Our Community” With Sandy Hook Promise

Keep our Kids Safe

On January 14th, 2013, the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation was launched just one month after the shocking and tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary that devastated the country. Despite Washington’s inaction in its first year of existence, the foundation has found much success in local communities throughout the nation.

In order to honor the gains made over the last year as well as highlight the need to do more, plus size clothing retailer Kiyonna Clothing, Inc. has donated $26,000 to further the promise to those 26 lost souls of Sandy Hook Elementary. In a company letter released over the holidays, the President and Passionate Founder of Kiyonna, Kim Khanbeigi, noted:

“I have always believed that to be a successful and sustainable business, we must first take care of our future. We need to appreciate the present and provide an amazing place to work and grow, and if we are fortunate to achieve the first two, we need to act on the privilege to give back to the community. Although we are on opposite sides of the country, we must consider the Newtown community our neighbors. Being able to put money behind something you believe in is truly a privilege and is one of the reasons I love this business.”

The mission of Sandy Hook Promise is twofold. First, to reduce the causes of gun violence by bringing together, in local and national dialogue, the great majority of Americans who agree that we must find and implement common sense solutions to address the causes of gun violence in order to save lives in our communities and our country. Secondly, they work to help the Sandy Hook community through the tragedy by providing immediate and long-term financial, in-kind, and other aid on request, to families who lost loved ones, those wounded, and others in our community impacted by this tragedy.

Kiyonna urges other retailers to join in the fight against gun violence. During the holiday season, there is no better cause to celebrate than peace on earth. For more information on how to donate to the Sandy Hook Promise, please visit their website.
